How Much Does Wegovy Cost in Charlotte With Insurance?

There is no single price. What you pay for Wegovy in Charlotte depends on four separate things, and most of the confusion comes from treating them as one. Here is how each part works, and how to find your own number.

The Four Things That Set Your Cost

1. Whether your plan covers weight management medication at all. Some do, some require prior authorization first, and some exclude it outright as a plan design choice.
2. Which pharmacy benefit tier Wegovy sits on for your specific plan, which sets your copay or coinsurance.
3. Whether you qualify for a program such as the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge or a manufacturer savings program.
4. What the medical side costs, meaning the visits, labs, and monitoring, which is billed separately from the drug.

Start Here: Two Benefits, Not One

Coverage for medical services and coverage for prescription medications are separate benefits.

Your medical benefit pays for the physician evaluation, lab work, body composition testing, and follow-up visits. Your pharmacy benefit pays for the Wegovy itself, if your plan includes weight management drugs.

If You Have Medicare

This is the clearest number on the page. The Medicare GLP-1 Bridge covers Wegovy, in both the injection and the tablet form, at $50 per month for people who qualify, regardless of income. The program started 1 July 2026 and is scheduled to run through 31 December 2027.

Not everyone with Medicare qualifies. You need Part D coverage, you must not already be getting a GLP-1 through your drug plan, you must not have a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes, moderate to severe sleep apnea, or fatty liver disease, and you need to meet one of the BMI thresholds. If You Have Medicaid or TRICARE

We accept North Carolina Medicaid, South Carolina Medicaid, and TRICARE. Each handles weight management medication under its own rules, and they are genuinely different from one another, so we keep a separate guide for each: NC Medicaid, SC Medicaid, and TRICARE.

One note on TRICARE specifically: it currently excludes nonsurgical treatment when weight reduction is the purpose of the service. That does not automatically end the conversation, but it changes the route, and the guide explains how.

If You Have Commercial or Employer Insurance

This is where the range is widest. We accept Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, Humana, and MedCost, among others. What Wegovy costs you under any of them depends on your employer's plan design rather than on the insurer's name.

Three outcomes are common:

• Covered with a copay. You pay a set amount per fill.
• Covered after prior authorization. Your plan wants documentation of your BMI, your weight-related conditions, and what you have already tried, before it will pay. Our team prepares and submits that.
• Excluded. Some employer plans carve out weight management drugs entirely. Your medical visits may still be covered even when the drug is not.

Call the member services number on your card and ask two specific questions: is Wegovy on my formulary, and does it require prior authorization. Those two answers tell you most of what you need.

If You Are Paying Cash

Manufacturer savings programs reduce the medication cost for some patients, and terms change, so it is worth checking current offers rather than relying on a figure you read months ago.

A Word on Compounded Semaglutide

Cost is the reason most patients ask about it, and that is a fair reason to ask. Compounded semaglutide is not FDA-approved. The FDA has not reviewed it for safety, for effectiveness, or for manufacturing quality, and has warned about dosing errors serious enough to send people to hospital.

We prescribe brand-name, FDA-approved medication filled through licensed retail pharmacies. We do not prescribe compounded semaglutide. How to Get Your Actual Number

1. Call the member services number on your insurance card and ask whether Wegovy is on your formulary and whether it needs prior authorization.
2. Send us your information through the screening form, or call (980) 306-2060.
3. Bring your card, a photo ID, your medication list, and any recent labs to your visit.
4. We handle the prior authorization paperwork and follow up on it.
